I am often asked about inspirational books. I have many favorites, my latest is 'Drawing and Painting People' by Emily Ball. Six years ago I took an adult education class run by Katie Sollohub at the Friends Centre in Brighton, many of the ways of working we tried then are described in this book. I found it a fresh fascinating approach.

Bea has been with us for a week. She is affectionate, elegant, gentle, with a splash of cheeky monkey. She rubs against our legs like a cat. Giving her cuddles and massage makes her bottom lip wobble. She is house trained, on a Burns diet and can confidently go up and down stairs. Her day starts at 7am with a few sniffs in our courtyard garden. Then across the road for an off lead run in our local tennis courts, plus meet and greet with doggy friends. Back home for a rest, before breakfast is served. Mornings are spent snoozing, some shoppers may come and say hello, intermingled with sunbathing and exploring. Then a nice big lunch, followed by a long afternoon nap. Once the Gallery is closed, we put our wellies on, lunge leads out and go for a country walk. So far Bea has given an enormous black dog, some sheep, cows and lots of fishermen, a super friendly welcome. Back home whilst the humans have supper, Bea gets a dental chew, then it’s TV and cuddles before bed. With the pecking order established, Finn our Lurcher likes Bea too.

Arts Hut is delighted to offer visitors a wide range of Herstmonceux Greeting Cards created by our in house graphic designers. On the back is local history information, such as all the residents of Herstmonceux Castle. We have fun cards based on local industries such as a label from our original Angears Sweet Jars. For those of you with a large wall to fill, we have two 40 inch square cow portraits or if you are looking for a smaller piece, beautiful wildlife prints by Charlotte Matthews.

This is the first weekend of the South East Open Studios. We have received 22 visitors so far, many new faces, with people coming from Kent to see the cattle paintings and Surrey to see the Lurchers. I am very flattered. Yesterday I was pleased to accept a commission to paint a greyhound. Today is a beautiful sunny Sunday, so here is a glimpse inside Arts Hut.

Today we went to the seaside, it was hot, hot, hot. No 2 son CWP and girlfriend Ellie have left home, for a place of their own. Up four flights of stairs, we found a bright attic flat with angled walls, a very plush kitchen and bathroom, all flooded with light. We like. After a leisurely lunch we took a stroll on the promenade.
