Electricity in Herstmonceux is a bit hit and miss. On Wednesday night it went off for a few hours, leaving us with a torch and two dogs for warmth. Today we had a snow storm with thunder bolts and lightning, hailstones the size of gobstoppers, followed by a brilliant blue sky. I have kept the Gallery open whilst hanging my tinsel, cards and planting skinny Father Christmas figures in wine glasses. As you do.

I am fascinated by the phenomenon of 'guerrilla gardening'. All around the world people reclaim small areas of public space to grow plants and veg, plus make seed bombs filled with wild flowers to throw into hard to reach abandoned lots and neglected pieces of land.

As the snow melted our roof leaked, drains blocked and electricity blew. Today, light at the end of this renovation tunnel in the form of our Scutt & Coles Ashdown Check blinds. Created and fitted by the lovely Jenny Hook
