As Seen In Artwatchguide

Welcome to the first spangly edition of Artwatchguide to Museums and Galleries covering Lewes, Eastbourne and Wealden. My painting of Thorndean Clover and a Funky Chicken pinny made it onto the front cover (top right) and Arts Hut is featured on page 9, my favourite number. Herstmonceux has its own cute mini map. What's not to love?

This weekend the local Open Studio season hits fever pitch with Artwave Festival Lewes District and Coastal Currents Hastings and Rother.

I've Been To Herstmonceux

My window displays aim to keep the citizens of The People's Republic of Herstmonceux entertained. Yesterday was a funny day:

Three teenagers walked past and burst into song "How about you, you, you?".

A Dad "Have you seen that tea towel, now that's very good isn't it?" Bemused toddler, no reply.

A Gran who gave her friends the full history of the original Keep Calm and Carry On Poster.

You will note its the red tea towel getting all the attention, we have sold 14 in the first two weeks. Mr PWP and the lovely Nina are delighted, if a little smug.

Loving Lewes

August has been unusually lively and this bank holiday Herstmonceux Castle plays host to the giant Medieval Festival - the Dent family and mini PWP's will be visiting.  Mr PWP and I have been to Lewes, dropping off my seascapes at Ochre Framing encouraging Mr Dogsby to sit on the counter at Gardener and Cook and checking out what delights Cook can provide, to fit in our oven and be popped on the table this weekend without me breaking into a sweat. We are renovating our upstairs kitchen, so potentially seven adults, two babies and two hounds will be dining in my studio.

Winchelsea Beach

In the studio I am painting on board, continuing my exploration of the Winchelsea coast and experiments with textures and layers. I am pleased with the paintings subtle delicate quality, although I haven't learnt how to capture this in my photos yet. On Monday they are off to the framers.

Sitting Room

The renovation of Arts Hut continues with our decorators finishing off the upstairs Sitting Room. Originally fitted with a lime green plastic chimney breast, secret cupboards and a neck crunching low ceiling - we went up into the roof. One skip and two steel beams later, the room is now twice the height. The ceiling is painted Aged White and the walls China Cup.

Elli Moody Cards

I write down all customer suggestions in the big diary which is also my sales book, exhibition timetable and birthday record. Greeting cards with words on such as 'Thank You', 'Congratulations' etc have been asked for again and again. Whilst most of the artists exhibiting at Arts Hut live in the surrounding villages, I threw my net a bit wider to find an independent illustrator with a range of cards that made me smile and include special events & blue spot watering cans. Do have a look at www.ellimoody.co.uk

Pirate Day

Friday night in Hastings and almost everyone was wearing stripes and a pirate hat - for 'Pirate Day', part of the Old Town Festival. We were heading for the Rye Society of Artists Summer Show. There were so many people inside the Boys Club Rye we couldn't see the walls. So happily hobbled up the steep cobbles to The Mermaid Inn...

Tractor Tea Towel

My monoprint of Sue Watson's Massey Ferguson 135 Tractor - spotted in her barn at Thorndean Farm, Cowbeech whilst visiting her cows - has been screen printed onto a tea towel. I am really pleased, the unbleached 100% cotton is lovely and it has a chunky hanging loop. Available from my online shop

Open Day

At 3pm our Open Day burst into life with thunder, lightening, a minor flash flood and a theatrical performance of beeping by my electrical equipment. Our guests were in high spirits and I managed to sneak in a few photos of the Ladies from Worth and Coopers Croft, the Calligraphers and Model Makers in the studio and last but not least Gracie.

Our Open Day was great fun thanks to the contributions of our lovely friends and neighbours. Lollipop laurels from Vicky and Helen, jam cup cakes from Val and Sophie. Sweet peas plus chocolate and coffee cup cakes from Heather, daisies from Kay, a cottage garden bouquet from Anna and fresh eggs from Tom. Thank you...

Essex Girls

Yesterday Jenny, Michael and Molly from Southern Lurcher Rescue came to collect their paintings of Miss Elly. Miss Elly was one of my favourite Lurcher models and since her death, I felt my paintings of her belonged with her family in Essex. You can read all about her in 'Long Term Sponsors' at SLR - she was very special.

Cup Cakes

Traditionally Mondays are our day off. This week we squeezed in a trip to the dentist, a two trolley supermarket dash and hook shopping in our diy store. Followed by hedge plundering, emergency plumbing and baking cupcakes.
