If: Asleep

Hounds asleep is a subject I draw weekly. Every room here has a comfy blanket, they turn, drop, wriggle and then slowly fall asleep. Sometimes they puff air out of their cheeks, roach or snore...

Hanging My Open Studio

On June 3rd my 'Open Studio' solo summer exhibition opens. This week I am removing other artists work from the Gallery and displaying my sketchbooks, tools and paints. I start by moving the heavy furniture. Immediately my obsession with painting black huts is exposed.

Streat Place Barn

Mrs Art Barn and I left the village for an afternoon of fun in Ditchling Artists Open Houses, part of Brighton Festival. After a strange encounter involving a sculpture trial of nettles, pizzeria and plant sale, we enjoyed Clare Winchester paintings at Shirley Crowther. On the way home we popped into Streat Place Barn, home of Jinks Mcgrath

If: Soaked

A few Illustration Friday topics have passed me by. This week is 'Soaked', I dream of once again becoming the proud owner of a bath. My selection of navy waterproof clothing for dog walking in heavy rain came to mind. However more fun are my memories of holidays on Crete, where if I thought I might get soaked, I would wear this spotty bikini. Rain storms in hot weather were always pleasant.

Life Drawings

I have been painting shingle for weeks, learning about mixing reds. As respite, large black and white tonal abstracts are staring at me from a studio corner. I am reminded of drawings from five years ago when Mr PWP would pose as my life model in the sunshine.

Sam Hall Ceramics

I am currently working on large canvas, inspired by the Dungeness landscape. In a perfect world my paintings would be similar to the beautiful ceramics created by Sam Hall who kindly sent me a package full of pictures to pin up in the studio.

The Snip

In May we snip our wild garden, in hair-do terms it is a drastic new look. In reality, jungle with swept pathways.

Jolly Serious About Gardening

As you enter Herstmonceux from the east, the beautiful wooden clad grand design, marks the start of the transformation of Lime Cross Nursery. Mr PWP has been working with the Tate family and I have been dipping in to help - as they are a retail client. This fun job also includes the lovely Jason responsible for the fabulous photographs. The first of the local advertisements came out yesterday and made me smile. If you are visiting Herstmonceux, do pop in for their expert advice and experience the new shop, cafe and gardens.

Prospect Cottage With Teasels

My fascination to capture the essence of Derek Jarman's cottage remains as strong as ever. This month is all about new coast paintings for my Open Studio.
