Paintings of Rye Harbour

Arts Hut is closed and I have a sore throat caused by sitting outside in the rain. Yesterday I started my new work routine. I approached two Galleries to exhibit and received positive replies from both. I also wrote to two shops in Rye to see if they would like to stock my greeting cards and posted 5 prints and 15 greeting cards to my aunt in Silchester for her coffee morning. We had one customer as the front door was unlocked, plus our neighbour arrived with a ladder, cutter and set to work on our hedge. This week I am finishing paintings of Rye Harbour for Avocet Gallery and paintings of Dungeness for my final open studio which starts on September 9th.

Bank Holiday Weekend

On Friday I went to a meeting to discuss hanging art in empty shop windows in Hailsham. I have touched up an old udder painting in anticipation. Also the annual visit of the little people took place, Mr PWP filled the cupboard with strange sweets and we spent Saturday evening at our 'refurbished' pub. Sunday included a local adventure park, eastbourne pier and hound walks. On Monday I gave the medieval festival a miss, our guests returned reporting 'Mouse Town' has been updated, there was a mouse on a skateboard...

Rye Society of Artists Summer Exhibition 2011

Rumour has it, it is quite tricky to get your work hung as a guest at the Rye Society of Artists Summer Exhibition. My little hut was hung in a superb spot on the end wall and then I saw the red dot. Hurrah.

This week all the guest artists work is packed for collection. The Gallery takes on a melancholy look at the end of show, amplified as it is the end of my four years as curator. I have learnt so much it is tempting to suggest every artist should try their hand at running a Gallery, at least for a month. It feels great to have sold work on behalf of 70 local artists. However as Art Fairs and opportunities to exhibit continue to pop up across Sussex, new and exciting adventures beckon.

Inch by inch the cottage looks smarter, yesterday the back wall was painted summer blue.

Friday Night

In years gone by Friday nights were mostly spent in smoke filled bars. Yesterday we took an evening stroll, chatted with some cattle and enjoyed delicious supper with friends.

if: influence

This weeks topic is Influence. The greatest influence for my paintings and where I feel most inspired is at the coast. We previously lived on a cliff top looking out to sea and hope to move back to the seaside later this year. Our beach holiday is a month away, I am looking forward to hearing the Gulls.

if: swell

This weeks Illustration Friday topic is swell. In Sussex when the waves swell the surfers pile into their VW Campers and head to the beach.

At Home

In an extraordinary week of inner city conflict, I have been looking through old photos of the countryside I call home.

if: imperfect

The Illustration Friday topic this week is imperfect. Beattie our retired racing greyhound has a leg injury which rendered her unfit to race and a large bald patch on her head from an operation. She has a talent for looking sorrowful and is very loving, we don't see her imperfections.

The Hound In Ink

After much experimentation the ink wins as my material for this summer. I shall be working mostly in the garden as it is a little messy. The Hound is pleased with my roughs to date. This is a relief, as Saluki's are very particular.
