Painting on Plywood

I ordered the Plywood online, it was delivered to Arts Hut by mistake. The Fixer then kindly delivered it to the Framer. The Framer then kindly cut it into 9 inch square pieces, keeping some long slithers. Team effort. I'm on the third coat of Gesso Primer.

  1. Looks fun, I quite like the prep stage there is something very satisfying about applying primer to your chosen canvas.

  2. Oh, my... I think I would get bored and would just like to get on with the painting bit :) Have you already decided what's going to come to life on these 9 inch square pieces?

  3. I'm loving the priming, since I started working with a nylon decorators brush. Which never goes hard, just washes out and drys really quickly.

The ply is for huts Kristina, I haven't painted a black hut for months, they are piling up inside my mind.

  4. Hi Anna,

I'm sorry to comment on this old post, but I have been looking for some plywood to start painting on and recalled that I'd seen mention of it on your blog :) I was just wondering, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of ply you use and how you frame it? Thank you so much :) I have a few ideas but am just doing a bit more research :)

  5. Ordinary ply, 5mm width.
Once painted it was impossible to tell it was ply, so I had it framed by my usual framer with a white wood frame.
    Hope that helps.
