Jerwood Gallery, Hastings
Controversial throughout its planning stage, the new Jerwood Gallery in Hastings is finally open.
The reviews in the Guardian have proved interesting
We visited yesterday.
Our verdict - we love it, well worth a trip.
Inside a host of beautiful paintings including the very special 'Frances Rose 2' by Maggi Hambling, 'Amy' by Winifred Nicholson, plus works by Prunella Clough, Anne Redpath and William Scott.
Sounds like it's well worth a visit.
ReplyDeleteHi Anna,
ReplyDeleteGreat write-up! I work at the Jerwood Gallery, would you mind if we share this on Facebook & Twitter?
Best wishes,
Shelley
Hi Shelley, Of course share away.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Thank you
DeleteHi Anna, I really like your images - where did you find that Make Up Your Own Mind plaque and how did I miss it?! I used the exact same phrase in my article about the gallery.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you reference the 'interesting' reviews but isn't that the point of art, that it creates debate and everyone will have a different opinion? I hope so!
Best,
Jai
Hi Jai
ReplyDeleteThanks, it was a bit of a cloudy day for photos.
If you stand outside the Jerwood entrance door, facing the two large windows of the eastern rooms, the small plaque is stuck about 6ft high on the wall on your right.
I return often to The Stade, it is one of my favourite places to paint.
Anna
Good news for Hastings
