Art School Introducing Watercolour April 2019

Margot had spent weeks creating still life displays on every surface, inspired by the paintings and books of Brighton based watercolour artist Shirley Trevena The effect was Dot Cottage full to the brim with powerful blasts of shapes, colour and texture everywhere I looked. In advance of the lesson students were sent links to her videos on You Tube, so they could listen to the language Shirley uses and watch how she mixes her colours and applies paint. I always encourage a 'warm up' page, as shown in this photograph to get your eye in, in terms of all the different marks the brushes can make and colour mixing.
