Art School Wild Gardens June 2019

Margot has been up since dawn strimming pathways through grass abundant with comfrey, fennel and daisies. She has new sturdy tables and chairs for the students to work on. During the afternoon I encourage them to lie down and look up at the plants. The aim of this session is to observe nature and respond in a gestural and expressive style. There is much to be learnt from looking at the sketchbooks and drawings of Ann Johnson  and the films of Kurt Jackson and Lewis Noble We are joined for art & lunch by the two latest Norwegian's staying at Dot Cottage who are happy chatting in beautiful English about Charleston and Great Dixter. My friend Nicola Waters also pops in for coffee and enjoys a guided tour of the two acres and receives a top tip to read 'The Garden Awakening' by Mary Reynolds. It has changed the way both Margot and I view our plots.
