Art School At The Beach

One of my favourite classes. Perfect weather, sunny with a strong easterly wind to blow hats, boards and paintings up, up and away. The task was to work swiftly, turning after 15 minutes to start a different composition, eventually spinning the full 360 degrees. After two hours we were happy to return to the workshop where Margot had arranged driftwood still lives and a modest library of our favourite sea paintings. We were able to compare our efforts with seascapes by Paul Nash, Mary Feddon, Winifred Nicholson, Keith Purser, Kurt Jackson and Joan Eardley. Videos of the artists in action had been emailed to the students with their lesson plan. A delicious lunch was followed by a plan to work up the sketches into a larger painting, using imagination. The Class will be repeated this Saturday July 6th.
